PARENTS AS TEACHERS HOME VISITATION PROGRAM A program of Family Resource Centers of Rochester Contact: Gloria Treis 585 436 0370 Family Resource Centers of Rochester provide parent and early childhood education, link families to essential services and support families as they advocate and care for themselves and their children. Donate books and puzzles to be left in the home after a home visit: age-appropriate for infants through 5 years old. Volunteer to accompany and assist a trained home visitor in monthly home visits based on the "Born to Learn" curriculum, a nationally recognized program in child development. Volunteer to be a classroom aide in classes that are divided into 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds, and 4-year-olds. Volunteer to help with toy sorting, organizing, putting toy orders together and general office work. ROR reaches children beginning at 6 months of age through their pediatrician and provides them with a book at each well-child visit, as well as providing parents with the education and support they need to make books an important part of their children's lives. Volunteer to read to children as they wait for their appointment in pediatric clinic waiting rooms throughout the Rochester area. Training provided. Donate children's books (new and gently-used.) Volunteer to read to children in waiting lobby. Donate books for 6 to 12 years: e.g., Harry Potter books, money for smoking cessation program, to help stop smoking safety kits for parents of infants, toddlers: plug protectors, safety latches for cabinets, gates, thermometers, digital (inexpensive), toothbrushes and toothpaste for kids, toys.
