HEALTHY MOMS PROGRAM OF UNITY HEALTH SYSTEMS Contact: Jacqueline Cowans, Coordinator 89 Genesee Street Rochester, NY 14611 585 386 3736 The Healthy Moms Program of Unity Health Systems provides pre-natal education and support to pregnant women. Although the program is located in the inner city, we do provide services to women of all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. The women participate in childbirth, parenting, and empowerment classes. Transportation, lunches, and childcare services are offered while the women are in the program. Donate baby clothes: onesies, socks, booties, outfits, diapers, hats, sweaters, sleepers, baby items for infants, ages birth to 12 months, blankets, books, breast feeding bags, breast pads, breast pumps (electric or manual), car seats, cribs, highchairs, strollers, diaper bags, diaper genies, sippy cups. Commercial Street, Suite 2795 East Rochester, NY 14445-2402 585 340 2000 Heritage Christian Services supports children with developmental disabilities through residential homes, service coordination, respite, and day habilitation programs such as Springdale Farm and Heritage Christian Stables. Volunteer to provide friendship and respite to a child and family. Coaches are needed to support recreational athletic activities, including Special Olympics training. HILLSIDE CHILDREN'S CENTER Contact: Jennifer Bacci 585 256 7500 1183 Monroe Avenue Rochester, NY 14620 Hillside Children's Center is an affiliate of the Hillside Family of Agencies, which provides youth development, mental health, child welfare, juvenile justice, special education, and developmental services to youth and families across 24 counties in Central and Western New York. Volunteer to make a difference in the life of a child as a Hillside foster parent. Foster parents needed to provide a secure home environment that allows children to build on their strengths and develop important life skills. Volunteer at one of their many agencies located throughout the Rochester area to work with youth: Crestwood Children’s Center, Crestwood Children’s Foundation, Hillside Children’s Center, Hillside Children’s Foundation, Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection, or Snell Farms Children’s Center. JEFFERSON AVENUE CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT CENTER Contact: Furnessa Mangrum 585 436 0454 793 Jefferson Avenue Jefferson Avenue Childhood Development Center provides high-quality early-childhood education for children between the ages of 10 months and 5 years, and before/after-school enrichment program for children 6 to 12 years old. Volunteer to support a reading literacy program by reading to children. JEWISH COALITION FOR LITERACY Contact: Isobel Goldman (585) 461-0490 ext. 235 Rochester Jewish Coalition for Literacy enables students in Rochester city schools to have one-on-one tutors preparing them to read at grade level. Volunteer to work with children in city schools grades 1-3, who need help with literacy skills. 1 hour per week suggested. JUNIOR ACHIEVMENT OF ROCHESTER Contact: Jennifer Sciarabba 40 Humboldt Street Rochester, NY 14609 (585) 327-7400 Junior Achievement is a non-profit agency that arranges for volunteers from the Rochester business community to partner with elementary-, middle-, and high-school classrooms to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business, and economics to improve the quality of their lives. Volunteers are needed from the Rochester business community to spend five hours with an elementary (K-6) classroom being a role model and sharing their life experiences. Training and class activities are provided by Junior Achievement. Volunteers must have work experience and be able to volunteer during the work/school day. JUVENILE ACCOUNTABILITY CONFERENCING PROGRAM Sponsored by the United Way of Greater Rochester and The Rochester Police Department Contact: Anne Powless, Volunteer/Intern Coordinator 585 428 7496 185 Exchange Boulevard Rochester, NY 14614 Juvenile Accountability Conferencing offers the youthful offender the opportunity to take responsibility for his/her wrongful offense and to be reintegrated back into the community. Volunteer to supervise and work alongside youth ages 6-15 yrs required to perform community service projects. Often, victims who attend a conference request that the youth perform a meaningful community service project of a specified number of hours mostly in the neighborhood where the offense occurred.
